"We all know the AF tracking still isn't up there with the best" ????

I don't know that...
I think it's fair to say that it is known, though.

The PF.com review is a lot more comprehensive, and, since it doesn't avoid tackling the one thing where Pentax has been behind everyone else, a lot more credible.

The difficulty for me is in knowing whether that one thing is enough better than it was, for me to put up with it not being the best.

I'm often referred to as the good Doc. I'm not good.
I think you might possibly be gooder than me.

Given that AF and in particular tracking is a traditional weakness of Pentax then from my perspective it is a key potential improvement to actually test. Given the clear level of interest amongst other users of this and other forums on that very question it seems an odd capability to overlook.
You beat me to it, Doc.

Possibly for the best, I might have been less considered in my choice of words than your good self.

Stationary buildings indeed Chris, you don't realise how fast buildings move around here. Or that might be camera shake?
Well I know how careful you are to avoid photographing anything that might move, so I thought I'd make sure that our tests don't overlap.

It was a serious offer though - not that I'd expect the powers that be to take it up. I spend quite a bit of time up fairly close and personal with things like this...

... which doesn't tax the AF in the slightest...

and this:

and this...

.. which do a lot more. Even at 800px you can see how the K-5 AF is struggling, so if I was able to get much better results than this with the same lens, I might start sounding like Blunty.

They have to prise the camera back from my locked fingers yet....
If they want to lend it to me after you've done all the shots of the stationary buildings ( ), I'm more than happy to sit at the end of the runway at my local airfield and take pictures of the departing aircraft to review the AF's tracking ability.

Heck, I'll even provide a Bigma

He talked sense and had enthusiasm Chris, without any silly antics and time wasting.

Blunty seems a bit of a personality, but no worse than anyone else with a strong personality. He's keen.
Well I approve of enthusiasm, but not at the expense of credibility.

Personally, I wouldn't call it a review, it was unalloyed gushing, and any kind of review that doesn't at least comment on the biggest achilles heel of Pentax cameras, namely the AF, calls into question the attention to detail of the rest of the review.

The Camera Store one was just as enthusiastic, yet tempered with enough objectivity to remain believable.

It is almost impossible to induce moire effects with the K-3. I know because I was trying to for a long time last night, without much success.
The PentaxForums guys didn't seem to have much trouble.

It may be true that in normal use, we'd be unlikely to encounter it, but to say that it's almost impossible to induce it seems a bit strong.

However, I do agree that an OOF penguin is not an example

No worries, I'm sure there's a workaround ... oh hang on, I already have it.
Yeah, but it's a really ugly one...
