for me it looks a bit like the leather seats from very old oldtimers - but it is somehow far to big - so this is either the biggest old leather couch that ever existed - or I have no clue
Might also be a kind of protector thing - like a soft wall in a football stadium at a corner where the runners used to hit the wall or on a race track where cars smashed against something (or perhaps a horse race track in a corner - preventing that horses and riders got injured when hitten the outer wall.... hmm have no more ideas

Is a rubber object i.e the surface of a pill or something similar?
It lokks like a Scanning Electron Microscope photo. i.e. a cell wall!!!
