Exquisite, but the background lets this one down and it doesn't quite have the impact of the second shot you have posted.

I agree with that. It was bad enough trying to not have a completely white sky. I don't really like the Waxwing shots with the plain blue skies either. Perhaps I needed your polarising and grad filter!
