I realised that. Unfortunately the dust floating around somehow gets into the camera. will keeping it in a rain proof bag help.

The dust gets in in several ways; sometimes when changing lenses - so try and do it out of the wind and dust. However, your sensor needs a good clean. If you haven't done it before it can be a rather daunting first time round.
The newer cameras have much better sensors that don't attract the dust like yours in the first place. I used to have the original IstD (same sensor as yours) and would have to regularly clean the sensor!
You can either take the camera to a specialist camera shop to have it cleaned (probably expensive), or do it yourself.
You would need fully charged batteries in, remove the lens, go into the menu system and find 'sensor cleaning'. Activate this which lifts the mirror so you can see the sensor. You can either use 'Rocket' blower to puff air across the sensor. it needs to be one of these as they have a filter to stop you just blowing more dust on the sensor. That might help - but looking at your sensor, I would say you need a wet clean which means using a special liquid that doesn't leave any residue on the sensor and a pec-pad or equivalent to brush the sensor.
If you google 'sensor cleaning', I am sure you will find various articles to help and what is available in your part of the world!

thanks. i have been cleaning the sensor in the on camera mode with the Rocket blower. haven't tried the wet clean afraid of spoiling the sensor. do let me know if a kit is available in UK. can ask a relative of mine to bring it along when he comes to india.
