Lea.HDR
by Bobbinalorry
River Lea.My first go at HDR. I dont like it, I think it's horrible but I dont know where I've gone wrong. It is from 5 RAW's in Photomatix.
Any pointers, please?

I know almost nothing about HDR but I really feel that this is not the right subject for it. As Adrian points out, 1/15th of a second is always going to be a bit of a risk hand held.
Sorry Larry.

Not sure, but maybe 5 were too many images to layer. How about trying 3. The up side is that I quite like the finished product. It is rather like an oil painting.
Don't let this first attempt discourage you, keep experimenting. I don't like most HDR efforts, they're usually way too intense, but you appear to understand light and subtle textures.
Best of luck,
Stephen

I gladly welcome C & C's. Being foggy minded they really help me learn.

Almost every time there is "something wrong" with HDRs and for me they look artificial and just not right. But we're talking about colours whereas above Bobbinallory is having a problem with distortions which seem to come from raw pictures not overlapping, hence the merged result looks wrong. There shouldn't be a problem to layer 5 or even more pictures BUT they must be taken with a tripod to represent exactly the same picture. Impossible when hand held.

A big thank you to you all; I will take note of your comments and go back, with my tripod, for another try.
Best Regards, Larry.

I agree with Stephen in that it looks like an oil paintings. I don't think that it is a wrong picture, it is only artistic. I like its mood and colours. This is its real value.

I cannot say that I like it in hdr, Larry, but would like to see the river in a similar compo and scale!

Something came to my mind, Larry. Try out the pseudo HDR technique. Choose the best of the five shot and make two new picture from that setting the exposition value to higher and lower in Photoshop. Now you can use the Photomatix to make the HDR image.
