Interesting shot. Love the eyes. Wouldn't mind a bit more DOF. Is that possible when you're so close?

Not really, he's very small. If you go for f22 or something you don't gain that much but you loose sharpness and resolution.
The only way is to stack several shots but this isn't practical when you're already chasing the blighters all over the place
