Widowmaker

by Horst

This picture was taken inside an old Goldmine in Maldon ,Victoria.
The armature was an air operated hammer to break the quartz, containing the gold. however the fine quartz dust which is like glass found its way in to the lungs of the miners and many died by the age of about 30. Later the same hammer had a hollow shaft and water was pushed trough the shaft of the hammer. This saved many miners life.
The lighting in this mine consisted only of candles, like shown in this picture.
Taken with my K5 and my f35070mm lens at 1/8 sec.
Regards, Horst

Some nice background info to go with the image. Taken at an impressive 12800 ISO I notice..one of the highest ever settings i've seen on here. Certainly different.

cheers

With just two candles to light it that is an excellent result (and interesting)
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass
