Almost certainly a Red-headed Cardinal Beetle (Pyrochroa serraticornis) as opposed to the less common Black - Headed variety . This picture is well described as this little winged predator likes to take up good vantage points where they can spot tasty little critters.

Good value subject for anyone taking up insect / macro photography as they are quite abundant in the spring and summer, are not the most agile or busy of subjects, are nicely colourful and their size suits 1:1 image capture with a macro lens .
