I have a Cokin polarising filter - I just need to buy a different size adapter ring for the 18-55 lens.
I think I got the most important bit right - I had the camera in the back of the car on a trip to the gardening nursery. (No camera = no photo at all!)

But if you don;t mind me saying... Get a polarising filter. It will cut out all the reflections on the surface of the water and also make the colours more vibrant.
That's why fisherman use polarised glassed to cut the surface reflection down and they can then see where the fish are!
