Under the bonnet

Spitfire MH434 having a routine inspection at Duxford.

This is an HDR image that has been processed. perosnally I think HDR and the processing is interesting and offers a lot, but, is it real photography or the ability of software?

My missus says the same about my HDR shots. Personally I feel it can give you a much sharper image, which I always consider desirable. It's the difference between a photo and a picture!

It depends how you define what real photography is, if real photography exists at all. From the moment the image is composed some processing is taking place, even down to how you crop within the viewfinder. Good photography is like art and beauty, subjective! Photography is governed by one rule; there are no rules but there are extremes and even these depend on your viewpoint. And so it is with HDR. Some love it, some hate it. It can be extreme, or as in the case of your image, just stunning. But that's only my viewpoint....

What you need are lenses, more lenses, bigger lenses, better lenses, faster lenses, vintage lenses and when you have these, your pictures will be perfect!

Thank you for your comment, I will remember that "Photography is like art and beauty....and there are no rules"
I have never considered myself to be creative but photography opens new doors.....

HDR suits this subject really well and it is a lovely image. I use HDR, but very rarely. To me, HDR is used to recover details that are more difficult to recover in other ways, but I always try to make my HDR look natural.

I have used tonemapping on rare occasions and find it can suit some types of shots. Generally, I steer clear but I have no issues with anyone using HDR and it does not make it any less of a photograph, regardless of how it is processed.
