The Thing

by go4IT

Does anyone have an idea what this is? It is about 1/4-inch long. That feather-like tail is most unusual.

Not sure about the identity but the feather like tail, could that be the wings?

The tail thing is its wings which have not been fully retracted beneath the wing cases. The thing itself is a carpet beetle - named for the pattern on its back. They can often be seen eating pollen on flowers such as daisies that have flat centers.
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass

Many thanks for your info David! It was eating pollen, I think. I'm posting another image of a carpet beetle today.
