A most unusual image and a great capture. Did it achieve lift off? I ask because I understood dragonflies had to wait for their wings to harden before being able to fly.

Yes it did twas flying around quite happily for me

I know image quality is not quite up there but it was a huge crop at max 300mm and 5.8 so not a bad result (sharpening added some noise)

Pretty good for a 'massive crop'. This really shows why photography is all about capturing a moment.

I can really feel the dragonfly's efforts as it struggles to break free from the clutches of the water. Great shot.
