Stinkhorn

Good shot, nice colours and well framed. Phallus Impudicus (Stinkhorn). I last saw one of these circa 1973 when I photographed it with my old Exakta film camera. You smell them long before seeing them; the cap is covered with a smelly spore laden green or brown gunge which attracts the flies. After devouring the gunge, the spores pass through the flies' digestive systems and are deposited by the flies into new/different territory. What a clever fungus! It looks as though the flies in this shot have almost cleared the cap clean.
