St. Wythan's Church, Repton

by davidstorm

A trip today to photograph the magnificent St. Wythan's Church, Repton, which dates back to the 8th Century. Repton is the ancient capital of Mercia and it is in this Church that the Anglo-Saxon Mercian Kings are buried. Repton is also the gathering place for the Great Heathen (Viking) Army in the Winter of 873-74, four years prior to their ultimate defeat by King Alfred the Great of Wessex in 878. Not only is this a historic place, but it is also a magnificent church and churchyard, with many huge, ancient Yew Trees, some of which feature in this image.

This image is a composite of 3 exposures, to ensure that detail is retained in the sky and the shadows, as the dynamic range in this shot was very high.
