Sparring ---

by Peter Elgar

I had to take this Boxer Micheal Evans sparring for a story in the Sport section, Brentwood Gazette -- I had not done any boxing photos since Frank Bruno about 25 years ago !! Iused two flashes : a Starblitz 3200 BT and a Sunpak auto 36DX on a slave unit held by my wife -- ISO was 200, shutter speed 1/160 and f6.3

Pity the background is so cluttered as I think the boxer is very good, I think his sparring partner could be cropped off too.

I like it

In my experience the background in a boxing gym is always cluttered one way or the other so that was probably unavoidable - great experession on his face
K10D, K5 plus plenty of clueless enthusiasm.

Yes -- all the walls had Paintings on them -- I always look at the background first for distracting details after many many years of being 'Judged' in Camera Clubs -- but when out on 'Professional Jobs' it is not possible always to get clean backgrounds -- the Sports Editor was very pleased with the result and asked the Chief Photographer " Who took those photos for us " and the Chief replied the famous Pentax Pete!
I had a little help from the Wife who came on the job with me as she wanted to go to TESCOS shopping afterwards - she held the Sunpak auto 36 DX flash with the slave cell from the left.
Been a member of Pentax Club since the Ron Spillman era! Got COMPUTERISED at last - DIGITISED?
Taken the PLUNGE - BUT FILM STILL RULES !!!
