Skew bridge

by Froggy

This skewed railway bridge over the Leeds and Liverpool Canal (actually the southern part of the Lancaster Canal) would have been built c1840 when the Bolton and Predston Railway reached Chorley always amazes me. The masonry work shows the extraordinary skills of the masons at the time.

Amazes me too. When you examine the bit that is actually supporting the load it's surprisingly thin - and then they skew it like this. It makes for a really nice picture too!
