Shark Interest
by nonur
It appeared for the first time in Konya Fishmarket at least for the last 33 years. There was a great interest.

Sharks must be very rare in Turkish waters,Nezih. I hope someone from the University had a look at it before it ended up as kebabs? Has Konya got an Oceanographic Department, I would not expect so, It's a bit too far from the ocean. The men's faces are interesting too, they look surprised.

It is a real socio-photo. You caught well the reactions of the men. Well done.

this is an amazing shot showing how people act in their enviroment - how they are fascinated by this creature. Although the shark seems to be the main act it is also a picture that very much focuses on the audience. Like it a lot

Thank you folks, much appreciated.
Sharks are not very rare, but not as many as in the oceans, David. I remember myself catching some of the smaller kind. As it is located inland, Konya people eat more fresh water fish than saltwater fish. So, they would not eat sharks, therefore the fishmonger was selling it rather cheap and also making, as you say sish kebab, to convince them that it is edible and tastes good. The university has no Oceanographic Department in Konya, but we have Underwater Archealogy Dept. and Hydrobiology section of Biology Dept.
