Winter Steam
by sportyman531
Black 5 no. 44871 at Little Burrs, East Lancashire Railway, Bury with a Santa Special. Someone was in mobile contact with the footplate crew and had arranged clag (smoke) at this location. It also helps to be within walking distance of the line! Using a wide angle gives a good view of the locos motion. With no wind at the location the clag went straight back leaving the train mostly clear.

this looks amazing - definately political incorrect in the age of global warming but what a wonderfull left-over from the beginning of the 20th century. Perfectly captured as well

Like this alot, I would, however, recommend 2 minor changes to emphesize the old feel to the pic.
1. Clone away the airplane in the upper right corner.
2. Clone away those power lines.
Best regards
Magnus

I think that 'clag' or smoke is mainly steam. The cold air means you get a lot of steam from a locomotive in the winter. Its a lovely atmospheric picture, well worth looking at enlarged by double clicking the image.

Agree with the cloning comments and definitely agree with the comments on the beautiful billowing steam.
There seems to be a solitary figure to the right at the end of the steam trail that gives it a lovely extra depth and almost a railway children feel.
Love it!

A great shot featuring one of my all-time favourite steam engines.
Best wishes,

add to the clone comments,
consider lossing a wee bit of the foreground and a panel to the left of the picture - my eye is looking for things in the gap.
the main focus is this wonderful pluming steam train, and thats what it should be
wonderfully well captured all the same!
