Tornado crossing The Tyne
by davidtrout
Britain's most modern steam locomotive, Tornado, on the King Edward Bridge crossing the River Tyne into Newcastle with a charter train last summer. I've managed to pack quite a few Tyneside iconic landmarks into this shot in addition to the contrasting diesel local train.
Several of the Tyne bridges, including the blue girders of The Metro Bridge, are in the view as is also Gateshead's Sage Music Centre, and top right, the architectural land mark Byker Wall. OK, so its compositionally a busy picture but I believe in giving value.

I had to do a double take here....i didnt see it at first!
The various bridges with the modern diesel train, against a backdrop of of the lego style byker wall, and the curves of the sage....and then the Tornado, blending in perfectly with the roofline of the modern diesel.
Great shot, i really like it.
You must be either:-
A. Very happy with this, or
B. Gutted that the modern diesel decided to cross at the same time!
Typical though, you wait ages, then two come along at once

It is busy but I like it, full of interest. Was it took from the Redheugh Bridge? it's the only place I can think of where you could get this view.

Tornado was held for signals for a short while on the bridge so I got it on its own as well as with various modern trains passing it.
And yes, it was taken from the Redheugh Bridge. Even on a warm summer's day its not that warm up there, a wind always seems to be blowing down the Tyne Valley from the west.
