Thanks folks.
Unless there's a very good reason not to, I always shoot at f8. You get ample depth of field, a decent shutter speed and the lens is in its "zone".

Actually the surface is superior to some of the main streets in our town, Peter! The state of the roads is a disgrace. I dread to think of the time I spend looking to avoid pot-holes rather than concentrating on other vehicles and pedestrians.Hi Andrew.

I'll tell you, Nezih, it's even better, as you can see up the Llanberis Pass and right towards Snowdon but it's not as photogenic!

The f8 policy is one I try to stick to myself Andrew, primarily to get the best out of the lens. Despite living in the Dutch Alps we don't have too many scenes like this!
