Coney Island started to become a resort area after the Coney Island Hotel was finished in 1829. Due to Coney Island's proximity to Manhattan, and its relative distance from the city of Brooklyn, it began attracting vacationers in the 1830s and 1840s, carriage roads and steamship service that reduced travel time from a formerly half-day journey to two hours. Coney Island was once known as the largest amusement park in the world, but throughout the years and a major fire that destroyed most of the park,
Today there are a few rides, boardwalk, the old Cyclone roller coaster, and the famous Nathan's Hot dogs which is now 100 years old.
In the background you can see the old parachute jump which is still standing, a Coney Island Icon.
