Stopped in on our way back from New Years at Taupo. The landscape can change very quickly and you're soon into desert rock along the Desert Road.
This was used in Peter Jacksons Lord of the Rings series.

Nice shot. My first thought was crop out the bottom, but then the greenery adds to the shot, so can't make up my mind. would like to see a closer shot of Mt Ruapehu.
