Some of these engines are well over 100 years old yet they have been lovingly restored and maintained in working order. But I wonder how much of the original iron/steel/copper etc is still in place. Bits of the engine will have been replaced steadily over the years.
This is a fine image of Palmerston - a design which I believe goes back to the 1860s.

Very nice portrait. I like this "original" livery they've recently adopted too
