Sorry Dan for doubting you, this is indeed a hoverfly as hoverflies have 2 wings rather than 4

No worries Paul, harmless hoverflies look the way they do to mimic bees and wasps with stings, so they're easily confused. It was the eyes and antennae that first alerted me. Well done for counting the wings!

If you see it around the honeysuckle again, see if it's landing on the leaves and laying eggs, it looks like a female (unless I'm forgetting which way round the differences are, if you see what I mean).
Fun getting them in flight, isn't it?
