Using my ist Dl with kit lens, and mounted a f1.7-55mm lens on the front.

Use a stander d kit lens and mount a fast lens such as a Pentax f1.8-50-mm on the front of the first lens.You will be able to take extremely close up images.

do you use a specialfilter adapter to combine the two lenses??

Yes ,find a step down ring for your lenses, from your local camera store.I am sure you will be able to mount the two lenses together.
