landscape loking across the solent from IOW

This was an early picture taken back in April when I first started with photography. It was my first foray in composition I suppose. However, the reason for posting is that I thought I'd take a rather mundane picture and play with Black and White. So, I de-saturated it, did some burning top right in the clouds, high sharpening and 'clarifying' in PSP. I then decided to add 'noise' to see the effect. Personally I quite like the grain effect as it gives the picture a sort of 'timeless' quality. But I suppose it's a 'marmite' thing. I have a good few images in colour which dont really do anything for me and rather than consign them to the Bin I'm gonna convert to B&W and give them some contrast. But before that I'd like to know if I@m on the right lines. Your comments and thoughts

Cheers Mike. I do enjoy HDR. The shot in my portfolio of Bowood House is a HDR shot. Maybe I should try HDR B&W. The reason I tried this is because I came across a rather mundane colour shot of Sydney Opera House, but it was sprused up by the techniques I 'tried to' use on this image.

BW allows the viewers personal imagination to run riot.
If you enjoy that sort of 'painterly' impact you should try some HDR with some of your images
