Now there is a marvelous sight! ....... Would it stand on its own, without the colourful distraction on the right?

I agree that it would also stand up on it's own but that reflection of the bridge makes it look like a giant 'Pacman' about to eat a multicolored Humbug !
And that makes the shot seem even better !
