Death of a monument

This is one of the saddest photos I've ever taken - the slow deteriation of a Victorian masterpiece. The West pier Brighton was my playground as a child, as was the beach below it. The Brighton councillors who watched the pier crumble into the sea for want of funds should hang their heads in shame.
