Thanks everyone. It is a post in the harbour at Teignmouth in Devon, used to moor fishing boats and the like. Goodness knows what the bits of metal were/are all about. The lovely (rare) sunlight made the shot for me. I cropped it little to exclude any background.

You could sit around thinking up a composition like this for ages- getting everything positioned just so, right angle of the post grain, just the right angle and amount of light to bring out the detail, subtle colours and textures...A special talent is required to be able to spot an image like this. Excellent.
