Ancient Stones

Stokesay Castle, Shropshire. My friends at Durham Photo Soc say I've overdone the contrast here and made the picture too harsh. But its the effect I wanted, to make the stonework look gritty and ancient.
Just checked the EXIF which seems to be missing all the info. The picture was taken on a K10d with 16-50DA* lens at 16mm.

Thanks for those comments, much appreciated. I agree about the sky, the light was poor and there wasn't much detail up there to start with. I know a forboding menacing sky would have helped but I have a confession -my Photoshop technical experience hasn't yet got round to doing layers so I'm not confident about importing a sky from somewhere else.

I also love the contrast ! i think it really matches the overall image and feelings the surroundings give . . tombs and old houses ..

Great image, like the 'harsh' B&W.
Agree about the sky, give it a try replacing it in Photoshop when you get more into it.
Playing with it is half the fun, I think anyway.

Yep I agree... Just remember to work on a copy of the picture before editting (not like I done) and yes I am embarrassed
Pentax K7 and K5 and several black tubey things with magnifying glass in that twist around and move in and out - to be honest I am not sure exactly what I have. Will list the proper names one day..
