by PeterKR

I think this is a Scarlet Tiger Moth ?
(Please let me know if this is correct ?)

This was seen on 1st July in a cliifftop hamlet near the beach in North Devon, close to the coastal path.

It has the general appearance of a Burnet (which is usually Black with red spots). These are known to have white spots now and then. This harlequin version is a new one on me.
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass

Update added later -

A Google search would indicate that this IS a Scarlet Tiger Moth. The red flash between the wings would indicate the scarlet inner wings beneath and the description says this moth has a characteristic green iridescence on the wings, which was one of the features which caught my eye. It is also commonly seen near sea shores and is a daytime flyer.
