I wonder how many more years that ring will take to break into pieces! I like to see the layering of the rust on the ring, the colour and texture!

What a photogenic material this rust stuff is!
Well seen, grand image!
I think the iron loop has probably been on there rather longer than what I think are reinforcing plates used in the manufacture of roofing A-frames & the like; they may even have been galvanised in a previous life!
