Another old door
by PeterKR
This is a side door in the Parish Church of The Holy Cross in Goodnestone, near Canterbury.
This is a Grade 1 Listed Building.
It was not so much the door but the stonework of the walls which caught my eye.
The 'brickwork' appears to be perfectly cleaved flints shaped into uniformly sized rectangular blocks - must have taken a great deal of time and effort to get these ?

I believe this style is 'tight knapped flint squares' - as you say, must have taken a great deal of time and effort!

Many thanks for the comments.
This is a lovely little village and the gardens of the Hall (once owned by Jane Austen's brother and visited by her many times), which abut the churchyard, are well worth a visit.
Best regards
Peter
