Butterfly

Found on the wall on the edge of St Denys church grounds. Watched her flying for a while, and when she landed I was fairly close by.

Hi Mike,
A few days earlier there had been a large number (seen by others), which I assume had come out due to the warm sunshine. There were very few when I took this, which was late afternoon, so still warm. I'd only seen two others, which were too far away (and fast moving) to get a picture, or identify.
Cheers

Nice, from my butterfly book it looks like a Painted Lady (Cynthia cardui).
And from the battered state of its fore-wings it probably over-wintered here.
Cheers
