ornithogalum longibracteatum
by PeterKR
"native to south africa ornithogalum longibracteatum(syn. o. caudatum) is commonly known as pregnant onion because its bulb is producing a lot of babies."
We've had one of these for over 30 years, sitting on the kitchen windowsill producing 'babies' by the thousand through the skin of the bulb. It took around 20 years before it flowered but now does so around twice a year.
These little 'daisy like' flowers open in sequence from the base of the head the die off as further flowers open until the head has extended to around 50cm long at the end of a stalk als over 50cm long. Before this time my wife has got fed up with all the dead flowers falling off and usually decapitates it ! Never mind, we have 2 more of the ofspring which also flower regularly !
The flowers are only around 1cm across so I tried a flash macro using the F35-70 on macro with manual focussing.

Many thanks for the comments.
I had tried many times before to get a record of these tiny little 'daisy' flowers but always ended up with a soft image.
As an experiment I tried using the built-in flash and was very pleased with the sharpness of this shot - and thanks, of course, to that great little lens !
Thanks again
Peter
