An expensive mistake

by AxelLuther

just 18 years ago, a small village close to where I live, got a brand-new train station (it cost several millions). A few mistakes now result in a bad example of how to waste money.
• The station was built outside the village – difficult to reach for many, who had no cars or bikes
• It has very steep stairs from the bridge down to the platform and no elevators – no chance for old people, mothers with baby buggies or people using wheelchairs to use these chairs
• It was a train station without any personal – only ticket machines
• The village offered no place for young people where they could meet
This might still not be explaining why such a new station turned into something so shabby, but it was at least pushing very much, that the building was more and more destroyed by youngsters. Have to say – the village itself is a nice place with no over-the-average rate of crime and poverty (and crime rate in Germany is in general very low)…. Destruction started a few years ago (probably when one person was throwing the first stone into a window – and since then, it affected more or less the whole building.
Very sad

Very unusual and beautifully shot image Axel. I like the warm pink tones of the stone contrasting with the blue window frames and the steely grey sky. Also, the colour of the roof (copper?) adds another nice tone.

Well its good to know even in Germany they make public planning mistakes once and a while! Scotland is just one planning mistake after another it would seem.
It does look like its from the 60's not just 18yrs old. Not the most beautiful thing, but strangely appealing colours and form however and the HDR has brought them out nicely.

A very well chosen moment for this shot. A tad lacking in contrast, as is the dint of HDR, but I really like the way each window has it's own colour and texture. A fortunate planning bungle for a photographer.

An interesting photo : it looks to me like railway carriages coming out of a central point. It looks sad but I love the blue, pink and beige colours of the building and its roof and the reflections in the windows.
