A lot of them were named after birds but after Mallard became famous the sycophants began renaming them after company directors and political figures and entities.

This is an original angle from which to photograph a loco.
Union of South Africa was the name this engine carried from new, and was never renamed unlike many that were saddled with the names of LNER company directors.
Osprey was a Class A1 - like Tornado - a later design used on the East Coast main Line.

Osprey was 60003, at least between 1937 and 1942!
I like this shot, despite the fact that part of the locomotive is not visible!
