BLACK LINES MATTER!!!

I am totally amazed and stumped to figure out how all the bold black lines outlining most of the elements in this image occur. These thick black lines make the image appear like a cartoon. Would appreciate any suggestions as to why and how these black lines occur. At any rate, I love the effect.

They certainly do matter.
