Top marks from me. The composition is satisfying because of it's strong shapes and simplicity. Black and white is pefect for images like this, I just can't visualise this in colour.

Another good'un, Andrew.
Not as much of an enigma as Steps I, but a wonderful range of tones.
My only reservation is the glimpse of the string, top right of the second flight. I don't think it needs to be seen to "explain" the stairs & I find it a little intrusive into the otherwise purely graphic qualities if the shot.
Still a shot I'd have been pleased to take, though!

Definitely a good spot, so good I would echo the above, there might be more to get out of it

OK, here's how it goes. I have a good peruse through the gallery once a day. I click through the thumbnails that really grab my attention (and those are fewer than there used to be) and then I find out that more often than not it's one of yours. It must be annoying to be that good.

Thanks everyone. I nearly didn't post this one. I took it on the way back after (unsuccessfully) trying to get some shots of waves and groynes on the beach. It only really "worked" after a crop of the top and conversion to mono.
I agree about the top right. I should have taken a couple of shots and worked the subject more. I felt a glimpse of light at the top would have helped the image, but in retrospect it hasn't. One to reshoot when we go back.

Kind words, Doc, and I'm flattered and gratified that someone of your standing should say them. I do think that some images work much better as thumbnails than others, particularly those with strong, simple composition. Highly detailed shots (often taken with wide angle lenses) really do need to be viewed large so that the eye has a chance to move about the scene and are often over-looked.

Wow, missed this one earlier but I have to say that it's one of the most striking images seen on the gallery in recent weeks. Very clever composition, perfect mono conversion. Great stuff!!

This is a masterpiece, Andrew. I'm sure this staircase wasn't as attractive in the real life as in your shot. I like the use of the simple geometric shapes, the well chosen view angle and the fine conversion.
