Errigal lake sunrise

by mcrtchly

We had been waiting for some time to get this image of mighty Errigal reflected in Lough Dunlewey at dawn. This is a location where all your ducks have to be in a row: no wind, giving a mirror-still surface to the lake to aid reflections; a clear eastern horizon for the sun to illuminate the sky; some cloud to be coloured by the rising sun and to be reflected in the pan flat surface of the lake; and the water level to be high enough to submerge the willow trees which add mood to the scene. If we were playing bingo, today we would have been able to declare a 'full house'! A scene well worth getting up at stupid o'clock for! 0.6 grad breakthrough photography filter helped to enhance the sky

Beautifully captured - well worth getting up early for. Are those JCTs in the foreground (Joe Cornish trees!) - .

The trees certainly make the scene. They are dwarf willow trees which are frequently submerged with the rise and fall of the lake which is used as reservoir for a hydro power plant. We went back there the next day and the trees were out of the water on a stony beach and the scene was not nearly so good. Thanks for the comment
