Semaphore Heaven

There are still plenty of semaphores at Barrow, including the small disc shunting signals, and they are all safe until 2025. Direct Rail Services 37 402 "Stephen Middlemore" snakes out of the station with the 14:37 Barrow-in-Furness - Carlisle whilst First Trans Pennine Express 185 109 waits to depart with a Manchester Airport service. The signalbox is a standard Furness railway design (pre 1923) the signals are BR upper quadrants based on an LMS design and the locomotive is around 50 years old. Time Warp!

It certainly does and now our railways are run by foreign companies, SNCF, DB etc. some of them with fancy names to hide their origin and our trains are built by foreign manufacturers like Bombardier, Hitachi. Whatever happened to the British manufacturing industry? (Climbs down from soapbox.)
