wiltshire sunset number 3
by petemasty
Taken at a highpoint just south of Avebury looking West. I saw the setting sun and headed off on a 30mile round trip to capture these sorts of images. Best of all there were some cows right on the hill silhouetted. I did try some HDR with other images but didnt like the end result with the detail in the fields and the red sky. seemed more natural to allow a hard silhouette of the landscape against the sky.

If I didnt drive that way to work a few days a week i would never have known about the location. So I put two and two together. Choice was, the pub or take advantage of the great sky that evening. didnt notice the line of birds until I began to play with the image. Decided to leave then in rather than rub them out as I didnt think they could possibly be mistook for dirt on the lens. I downed a few ciders when i got back. Glad you like

The Avebury area is a wonderful spot for landscape photography - the photography lecturer/pro photographer I (and a good few others) maintain contact with lives in the village. Spent a few afternoons with him and the rest of the our little group on the Ridgeway. Like all things photographic, a lot of it is timeing and doing a bit of recce work to get the locations worked out ready for that special moment.
