Preen

A Little Egret preening itself at Hackney Marshes, Teign Estuary , Devon.
Always a joy to watch them hunting for flatfish, by drumming the mud with their feet... then pouncing at their prey at such speed. These elegant birds spend a fair amount of time keeping their 20,000+ feathers clean and well oiled too.

Great shot, I love the contrast between the dark and light, very well captured.

Many thanks indeed John, I smiled as the Egret moved into this chiaroscuro contrast, lit by the setting sun to do it's preening such delightful and majestic looking creatures

Light, airy delicacy contrasted with the chaos of the muddy bank and the impenetrable blackness of the water. The side-lighting seals the deal. Like.
