Came across this "mushroom" on the way to Chain Bridge honey farm Berwick. Any idea what it is

I agree with DrOrloff; it is the Shaggy Ink Cap which like ground containing rubbish. As the spores ripen the gills liquefy and drip off the ink like fluid containing and dispersing the spores. Good specimen and nice colours but I would have preferred you not to have cropped away the background so much.

These are actually quite good eating if you get them before the caps start to open up. My dad used to call the 'Cocky Lads'. No idea why...

It is also sometimes known as the 'Lawyer's Wig', obviously due to it' appearance but it's botanical name is 'Coprinus comatus'.
