Simple yet very effective compo, bears out the maxim "less is more"

Exceptionally atmospheric, and skilfully observed. Technically very good too- was it taken with the Sigma 10-20?

Surely this is heavily oversaturated? Even the shadows are purple!

Hi Duncan
YES it was taken with THEE lens, Addicted already,,,,
Tim, are you being a little TOO critical? Possibly considering other comments?
Critique is developmental

Well, I apologise if you think I'm bring too critical. Everyone above me clearly thinks this is a great picture, so perhaps the purple shadows don't matter.
I think you need to distinguish between friendly comments and constructive criticism.

The shot was apart from a bit of sharpening as is. No apologies are needed, critique is always helpful and informative, and i thank you for the comment, I just took the shot.
I took the comment as well meaning, and i dont recall a comment as 'not helpful'or harsh but helpful'
I look forward to all critique as it is how WE all learn, and I can certainly distuinguish between the two.
Kind Regards
Paul

As you may have noticed Paul, I edited my comment before seeing your reply. I don't want to upset you or anyone else.
Given your joining date I presume you recall the forum-wide argument about 9 months ago concerning overly gushing 'critique'? A number of excellent photographers left this forum because of that issue. Let's just say that after reading some of the other comments in this thread I came close to starting the argument again
PS If you set your white balance to 'shade' you should be able to largely reduce these blue shadows.
PPS I still don't get how you got that blue sky straight out of camera. It's extremely regular for a CPL at 20mm, which makes me think you must shoot jpeg with saturation bumped up?

Let me very clear, you have not upset me. And I have no recollection of any comments re as you say 'over gushing'
And, if anyone left the forum because of comments similar to this then they may be shallow. I am, as i know full well an 'amateur' looking to progress, as I am also fully aware that this may well be a large %age of the membership!
I post photos on here for a variety of reasons, one of whichis to learn! And i am certainly grateful, (being fairly new to the K7 inparticular, to learn that setting the Wb to shade may assist.
And I a must say that i have NO idea that your comment re the CPL at 20mm makes any difference! I have had the lens for 2/3days and pointed and shot - learning!!! The shots were RAW and no saturation TOUCHED - please help me.......
Any assistance would be appreciated.
My main reference was to the overall response from the comments re the post, largely objective and positive rather than negative. Possibly from this we all need intensive tuition?
Kind Regards

Since you wisely shot in RAW you can change the white balance after the fact! I'd be interested to see what that does to the shadows. It was the blue shadows that made me think the sky was oversaturated, I suspect with black shadows you'll have a less-blue sky.
