Landscape with trees

Taken with a British made 1938 Ensar 1:4.5 100mm. Thousands of these were made and mounted on Ensign Selfix 320 folding cameras. Because it isn't a "name" like Zeiss, Meyer or Schneider or made in Germany they are generally disregarded. This lens will give most modern quality lenses a good run for their money!

Excellent, just look Browser Width to see the incredible detail this lens gives. I presume the Ensar needs an adapter, or does it?

The lens needed a complete remount, which I am getting quite good at doing. It is now an M42. All that is now needed are sufficient extension tubes to keep it at a suitable distance from the focal plane (which can differ according to camera make). You can either focus it as it was designed by screwing the front element in and out or you can leave it at infinity and swap out one extension tube for a focusing helicoid - which is what I do. Aperture control is with the original built-in iris. Using it is now no different to any other M42 lens that you might put on your camera.

An image that I would be proud of with a modern lens, let alone from a 1938 lens. Great result.

Where to get one?
They are quite common on Ebay on Selfix Ensign folding cameras. Then the problems begin. You can either use the camera as is or you can remount the shutter unit, which entails a bit of work on a lathe and a lot of swearing.

That is most certainly a lovely shot, David, and a worthy tribute to your dedication and dexterity in giving new life to old lenses.
One question, what aperture setting did you use to get that sharpness throughout the whole field ?
