St John the Baptist, Needham Market

by WaypointCharlie

I think this conveys the feel of the church, although the extreme perspective makes the roof look oppressive. Apart from the marvellous hammerbeam roof it is a bit uninteresting.

The geometry is all over the place, partly no doubt due to the photo stitching but also because of the genuine distortion of the old building. I think the walls are bowing outwards in the middle and this is why they've added the rather unsightly tie rods between the beams.

With the mixed light sources colour balance is a bit odd.

great work of framing first, .. and left wall is almost OK but right one looks like blowing rather inwards (anyway that's the way I contemplate it on my screen) but IMHO that's not bothering; as for hammerbeam roof it's exquisite, .. maybe it needs a very little bit more contrast in order to better reveal its fascinating detail ..
excellent work as a whole

I think the walls are very bowed in real life but when you're actually there your brain compensates better. Note that although I'm in the centre you can see a lot more of the first window on the right than you can of the one on the left. In fact, the more you look at it the more you wonder whether the building is safe!

I agree it would be nice to get more detail out of the roof - I went as far as I dared without the lighting looking overly surreal.
