While on a job doing interior house painting in a historical district, a number of antique classic cars began arriving in a lot next door. With haste I put down my paint brush and picked up my camera to do a little photo shoot.

Giulio, I think this to be a fantastic idea! It sounds like a masking job at which time I am not too knowledgeable in yet but working on it. Any advice on how to achieve this would be appreciated. I have Lightroom but don't quite know my way around it yet. All of my edits are done in iPhoto (MAC) and Picasa, a downloadable editing program. Both are very limited but thus far have been adequate for my needs. I am going to purchase a Lightroom how to book hopefully this weekend as I am ready to further my editing skills.

Well...you're right. This job requires a mask. The simplest and shortest way to achieve this is to convert into BW the whole image...and then apply a mask at same layer of BW conversion. Then use a soft-brush to paint black those areas that you need to keep in colour (the wall of bricks). Further you could fine-tuning opacity of that layer (using slider)...so to better control the final effect at your own liking. This workflow refers to Photoshop(all versions)PS Other peoples can suggest different paths using different softwares

I love old cars and nothing evokes the spirit of an age like its motorcars, American ones, in particular.
Great shot, made extra special by the sympathetic back ground. This one is in great original condition as well, not customised like some soft sods do to these masterpieces.

Thanks Giulio. I do have PS Elements 13 as well, but again it is new to me, however, with your tips on masking I feel a bit more informed! 😉
