Rusting hulk

by davidtrout

This week's competition is decay - and this is one of my attempts at the subject.
This Class 9F locomotive No. 92219 is the second last steam loco to be built by British Rail, back in 1960. It had a working life of just five years instead of the 40 years it was designed for because of the policy to build diesel and electric locos instead.
It has been standing as a rusting hulk at a heritage rail centre in Derbyshire for many years. The 9F is now to be restored at Kirkby Stephen in Cumbria.
This is one my earliest digital photos, taken on an Ist DS with standard kit lens in 2006.

I have an ambivalent attitude to rusting steam locomotves: I hate to see their decline but love to photograph them. 9Fs are terrific engines.
Best wishes,

Andrew

There was talk of just scrapping this loco and using it for spare parts which would be a shame! lets hope the cash can be found for full restoration.

Depicted beautifully! Good to hear it is to be restored.
