I'm liking your stark approach to dramatic black and white images.

Thanks. I am regularly accused of being morbid, lugubrious, perverted, etc. In fact, I was born cheerful and optimistic and just think a photo should try to be interesting and show things differently and not be simply reproductive. It should provoke a reaction, be it positive or negative. I very much like the remark by Robert Adams quoted (thank you for the insight) by "bwichmawr": "These places mean something and it's the job of a photographer to figure-out what the hell it is." This attitude should be applied as widely as possible and include things and situations. Photography becomes interesting when the subject is misrepresented, deviated, turned upside down and inside out. An offbeat title also helps. This all may sound pretentions, but saying "a bed" and "Napoleon's bed" totally changes perception. The surrealists knew all about that.

Could also have read into it: "We are all in a somber box in a clear but meaningless disk in an unfathomable dark context with no perceptible sense in the background and with not much to do except choose between up or down and with the only guidelines being two small arrows...".
Actually, as everybody knows, it is not at all that bad.

Views worthy of debate, but I like the shot anyway!
Paul.

Photography is not a sport. It has no rules. Everything must be dared and tried! (Bill Brandt)
